The Micro-controller (MCU) Projects:
The Microcontroller (MCU) projects have gain popularity among students, teachers, home appliances and controls designers. It has evolved from 4 bit to 8 bit to 16 bit to 32 bit as more and more powerful silicon processes are put in place. As the years gone by, the price of MCU has dropped by more than 50% making it a common device that is chosen over the more traditional analog type of circuitry. These days, it is not uncommon to find that the overall MCU based solution is much cheaper than its analog counterpart.
The student of Electronics Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechatronic Engineering, System Engineering, Computer Engineering, Information Technology Engineering etc are studying microcontroller in their course work and some of the students choose microcontroller based project in their final year project and thesis work.
Here are some common and the most popular projects of microcontroller those can be selected for final year degree projects for many students.
Interfacing of Keypad with Microcontroller, Decoding and Programming using C language
Multiplexing of keypad in matrix arrangement helps to save the number of ports used.
In the design of electronics project, it is very common to use a keypad matrix as a means for user to interface to the product. In order to minimize the number of pins used in the microcontroller, the keys should be arranged in as square a matrix as possible. One example is the use of 4 X 4 matrix arrangement in a 16 keys keypad. This arrangement require only 8 pins. If it is arrange in a 2 X 8 matrix, 10 pins will be needed instead of 8.
Using Reset IC STM1001 in Microcontroller Application
Reset IC is often needed as a power supply monitoring device for proper operation of microcontroller. In the design of microcontroller based electronics project, the use of Reset IC is critical for highly critical applications that need to ensure that the microcontroller (MCU) will only operate at its optimum voltage. Without the use of reset circuitry, the microcontroller (MCU) may go into a tristate of which it may go into abnormal operation.
Dice Project Using Atmel Microcontroller At89s51 (any 8051 family microcontroller)
In this project, we want to generate two random numbers between 1 and 6 every time the Roll switch is pressed and to display the numbers on the 7 segment LED displays for a few seconds. Then we want to be able to press Roll again and get another pair of numbers. If the Roll is not pressed for about a minute then we want to reduce the power consumption of the circuit.In this project, two random numbers are generated between 1 and 6 and displayed on two 7 segment displays every time a switch is pressed.
Electronic Time Clock Project Using Atmel Microcontroller At89s51 (any 8051 family microcontroller)
This application note uses Atmel At89s51 microcontroller as its core in the display and settings of a simple 4 digits electronic clock. Multiplexing has the advantage in that it helps to reduce the number of ports needed to connect to the 7 segments. It also keep the cost of a device low as fewer parts are needed. The setback is that the display may not be as bright as if it is driven directly without multiplexing.
Buck Boost LED Driver Using Atmel Microcontroller At89s51 (any 8051 family microcontroller)
This project uses buck boost converter circuit to drive a super bright 5.5W LED module that consumes up to 700mA of current. The LED used in this project is BL-4000 series White 5500K LED Light from Lamina. The buck boost converter circuit is derived from switching power supply applications which is becoming more common as the overall solution is smaller in size and more efficient compared to linear power supply solutions. The BL-4000 series LED module has a forward voltage drop of approximately 8V for a current limit of 700mA. The on chip operational amplifier is used to amplify the voltage across the resistor that is used to sense the current of the circuit.
Feed Rate Control of Fertilizer using microcontroller Atmel AT90S8515
Fertilizer Feed Rate Controller is used to control the rate flow Instead of conventional mechanical drive methods, the delivery rate was controlled through the use of an Atmel AT90S8515 microcontroller.The general premise is that farmers need to fertilize their crops. Under-fertilization causes problems with slow growth, while over-fertilization can waist fertilizer, damage the soil, or even kill the plants being fertilized. The most common method for fertilizer delivery is controlling the delivery rate based on a timing wheel that rolls along the ground.
Development of Robot Car using Microcontroller
The advancements in artificial intelligence are playing a major role in today’s world. In future, At will play a major role in all the fields of science and technology. This paper deals with the designing the cars enabled with artificial intelligence, to increase the safety and comfort of the passengers. These Robot-cars unlike conventional cars, does not need drivers for their driving. Instead of drivers, they are controlled autonomously using Differential-Global Position Systems (DGPS), Very Large Scale Integrated (VLSI) Chips programmed with reduced instruction set of codes (RISC) and microcontroller units.
